Eliana Rodgers (American, b. 1996) is an illustrator and textile artist based in Brooklyn, New York.
In her illustrative work, Eliana explores consumerism, world-building, and the relational aesthetics of platonic and romantic love. She finds humans infinitely fascinating, with their myriad of intricacies, thoughts, flaws, and quirks. She creates worlds full of beauty and goods, bright colors and optimism, and individuals who celebrate humanity in all forms.
Eliana’s textile work serves as a love letter to her family and friends. She launched her quilting studio, as well as, in May 2022, with a focus on tote bags, quilts, and pillows.
Eliana's mixed media quilting work deals with the consequences of pursuing perfection and the obsession of beauty. Pinpricks of blood-colored beads and brilliant red gashes hold fabric in uncomfortable positions. Blemishes riddle the flesh-toned spandex and stuffed appendages strain against their bondage. From afar, the quilt is hyper-feminine and pretty, with traditionally ‘sexy’ fabrics like lace and satin, girlish bows, and a gentle pastel color palette. Upon closer inspection, the viewer is made uncomfortably aware of the tension, manipulation, and folds. These quilts are "surrogate skin," which allow her to act out her violent impulses on fabric rather than her own body.
Eliana graduated from Columbia University in New York, NY, USA, with a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts in May of 2018.
